Get the help you need here (retracted, figure it out yourself, no more mr friendly here) to get up & running.
If you want to try getting a big audience & play with the big boys, you'll need to get on a network like radionomy & will need some expensive software like a sam's broadcaster if you want to sound pro, then be forced to play ads to pay for the artist royalties but if you just want do a private hobby station for your friends then it's next to nothing to get going & can sound as good as the big boys.
My station is using all free software with audio as good as best of them & really, the only major expense would be acquiring a good used xp pc that shouldn't run you more than $50 if that. You don't need to hire a server to spread around your station unless the number of listeners exceeds what you can handle in bandwidth in which case a good reliable & inexpensive server like Reliastream is an excellent choice I've used in the past but even cheaper is shoutcaststreamng. It costs me $1 a month & they say they'll serve up 100 listeners for that & provide you with a player you can insert into a blog or website something like the 1 you see here or pull it up right off the net on it's own page.
Anyone who is somewhat tech savvy should be able to handle the setup. I have a how to file I can send anyone & I'll help if I can. It's not too tedious to get up & running, but getting good respectable audio isn't as easy as you might think. For some reason a perfectly good sounding tune on your end will not sound near as good on the listeners end so if you plan to use your cd's or files you have on your pc, it's probably not going to be very impressive on it's own. It's takin' me years of testing many processors to find a combination that worked well together along with custom remastering my library & my audio is about as good as you'll ever hear from a net station but it's a never ending chore tinkering with it trying to get a little extra choiceness & except for an instruction tutorial I can provide to get you off in the right direction, you're on your own after that.
Update..... Most browsers just recently changed the audio protocols & the old shoutcast v1 servers like I'm using will not work on the new browser standards & my aversion to update forced me to find a 3rd party to host for my station as you'll find at the bottom of the page where all browsers can play my station. I've looked into upgrading my station server but I'm not tech savvy enough to set up the newer servers nor care to update my software as log as I can get my station to play on most browsers so my current advice is only relevant if you want to play with old software.
Internet just seems to be getting worse by the year shutting down stuff that was working fine & now all the censoring of information going on. The corporations are taking over & screwing up everything on the planet.
